Financial report: indicators of GTA 5 and RDR 2, reasons for deleting mods

Take-Two has reported to investors for the next fiscal quarter that covers the period from May until August 2021. In general, the company is experiencing a certain decline, but less than it was predicted.

The indicators are as follows:

  • in three months GTA 5 added a stable five million copies sold – now there are 150 of them (the series has sold 350 million times in total);
  • number of players GTA Online, according to the copyright holder, has increased by 72% over the past two years and beats records (there is no publicly available data – all words may be due to the need to report in financial statements what they want to see there);
  • at Red dead redemption 2 an increase of one million – now 38.

The statistics and figures are described in detail in two presentations: the first and second… In addition, there is event transcript

According to some estimates, the “five” with “Online” bring about 250 million! And RDR 2 became the 12th best-selling game. ahead of Mario Kart for Wii

There is no information that would prompt the public to think, there is no – Take-2 learned a lesson from last year’s situation, and now makes its financial reports as insipid as possible.

One can only note the statements of the head of the company on two topics. The first of them concerns the policy of zero tolerance for what Activision Blizzard is now suffering from (there was a place for misbehavior in the management of the giant, and now, in the wake of the struggle for all good things, courts and dismissals of high-ranking employees have followed). The second topic is more interesting to us – Mr. Zelnik spoke about the recent repressions in relation to modifications on gta5-mods.com and moddb.comfollowed by one self-destruct… The CEO of the copyright holder called the policy of the firm entrusted to him “flexible”, and the need to remove mods “extreme” – one that “threatens them economically” or contains “inappropriate content.” This is the official position of Take-Two Interactive in this situation.
