Another thread in the conversation is that AI could remove repetitive tasks from developers, leaving more time for creative work. For example, Hideo Kojima recently described AI as more of an ally for handling tedious, time-consuming jobs that reduce costs. Hamaguchi agrees that improving efficiency is important, but he says it’s part of a broader set of challenges beyond AI alone.
“Game creation is a complex endeavor with many moving parts—financial considerations, staff allocation, and team management,” he explains through a translator. “We need to consider solutions and be mindful of these issues.”
Hamaguchi does not dismiss AI entirely; he concedes it may be useful for gathering materials and sourcing references. However, that would be the extent of its role for his team at present.
“As a creator and a member of my creative team, I want to believe that, no matter how much AI tries to intrude into the creative process, we—humans—will strive to be good enough creators to surpass AI. That’s the standard we’re pushing for,” he says.
