Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Clarifies a 28‑Year‑Old Ending and Teases a Sequel

Two characters sit and enjoy the sunset in a grassy field filled with rock formations from a Final Fantasy Tactics screenshot.

As reported by TheGamer, the remaster makes this explicit. Over a black screen, Ramza declares, “We’ve eliminated the source of the chaos. Our work is done. From now on we shall live free, as birds on the wing.” He then urges them to leave Ivalice: “No. Should we remain, we would only be hunted as heretics. So instead… let us take to the road.” (You can view the scene on YouTube.)

Alma asks, “A path of our choosing… But will we be able to find our place?” Ramza answers with measured optimism: “I do not doubt it. For aside from each other, we have time. To forge new friendships. To start new families of our own. And one day when we have children, we will share with them our tale – the first chapter in a new legacy…”

While later entries like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 expand on Ivalice as a setting and preserve the series’ tactical roots, neither directly continues Ramza and Alma’s storyline. By clarifying that the siblings survive and choose exile, The Ivalice Chronicles’ ending leaves room for future strategy titles to follow their next chapter — or perhaps even the saga of their descendants.

Note: The director of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has expressed openness to revisiting the Game Boy Advance sequels if the remaster performs well, although they observed that the strategy RPG audience is currently smaller than in past years.
