Fall Out Boy to Miss Two Hella Mega Tour Dates Due to Positive COVID-19 Test

On Wednesday (Aug. 3) morning, Fall Out Boy announced that out of “an abundance of caution” they will miss the New York and Boston tour dates on their Hella Mega run with Weezer and Green Day due to a positive COVID-19 test from “an individual on the band’s team.”

“It’s important to note that everyone on the entire tour, both band and crew, are fully vaccinated,” reads Fall Out Boy’s statement on Instagram. “Each band and their crew have operated in a bubble independently to safeguard everyone as much as possible at each show and in between shows.” The statement also notes the Hella Mega tour has a full-time COVID safety protocol officer on staff.

The Hella Mega Tour hits New York City’s Citi Field on Aug. 4 and Boston’s Fenway Park on Aug. 5. Green Day and Weezer are still slated to perform, along with opening act The Interrupters.

While FOB’s statement doesn’t specify whether the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is affected by the delta variant, the CDC recently shared data revealing that the delta variant is far more transmissible amongst the vaccinated. Looking at a sample group in Provincetown, Mass., over the Fourth of July weekends, the CDC learned three-quarters of new infections occurred in vaccinated individuals. Previously, data had indicated that the coronavirus — when not of the delta variant — is significantly less likely to be spread by a vaccinated person.

Just yesterday, Garth Brooks announced that he was reevaluating his ongoing stadium tour in light of the surging pandemic and delta variant.
