    “Looking back, I don’t think there was a missed opportunity with that zombie title or experiments like Agent,” he noted. “They simply wouldn’t have reached the same level of quality or impact as GTA. In the end, they would have served as nothing more than a distraction and a waste of resources.”

    While those are blunt words, one has to wonder if such titles would have resonated with the community. Many gamers likely viewed L.A. Noire as a mere placeholder while waiting for the next massive Rockstar epic. That anticipation has only grown more intense as the wait for GTA 6 continues.

    That said, Vermeij has immense respect for developers who choose to step away from a guaranteed success to pursue a different creative vision—citing Larian Studios’ decision to return to the Divinity universe rather than jumping immediately into Baldur’s Gate 4. “It’s genuinely impressive to see a team like Larian finish a masterpiece like Baldur’s Gate 3 and decide they aren’t ready for a sequel yet,” he said.

    “It is a courageous move. It isn’t the obvious path, and it’s undeniably risky. It is far easier to simply keep doing what is already working.”

    Delaying GTA 6 is the “smartest move” Rockstar can make, according to the Elder Scrolls 6 lead, as fans would rather wait for a game that exceeds their high expectations.
