Liam Gallagher has weighed in on Harry Kane’s vocal struggles after the England captain belted out Oasis’ iconic anthem “Wonderwall” following the Three Lions’ thrilling World Cup victory against Mexico this Sunday.
In a gripping 3-2 match held at the historic Estadio Azteca, England triumphed in a tournament classic. Jude Bellingham struck twice early on, followed by a clinical penalty from Kane. Despite a late red card for Jarell Quansah and a frantic finish as Mexico clawed back two goals, England secured their place in the next round.
As the final whistle blew, the squad gathered with the traveling supporters to continue their tradition of singing “Wonderwall”—a ritual that has become the unofficial soundtrack for England’s journey through the 2026 tournament following wins over Croatia, Ghana, Panama, and DR Congo.
However, the post-match celebration took a toll on Kane’s pipes. The skipper confessed to BBC Sport that he had effectively lost his voice, struggling through his interview with the admission: “I’ve just been singing in there. I can’t really talk.”
Ever the rock-and-roll icon, Liam Gallagher took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend the captain’s commitment, writing: “It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.”
The celebrations weren’t without further incident; midfielder Jordan Henderson was unfortunately sidelined after sustaining a wrist injury following a fall over the advertising boards while engaging with the crowd. He was subsequently attended to by medical staff.
England now prepares for a high-stakes quarter-final showdown against Norway, set to take place in Miami this Saturday.
