The Ocean’s Eleven star George Clooney is set to receive the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
“As an actor, director, and producer, George Clooney is a consummate and charismatic artist—passionate and profoundly original—who has transformed his vocation into one of the most compelling narratives in contemporary cinema. […] He possesses the rare gift of making his characters feel not only authentic but also relatable, accessible, and deeply human, all underpinned by his undeniable charm,”
noted festival director Alberto Barbera in an official statement.
“I have so many wonderful memories of Venice. This festival is, without question, my favorite, and to receive a Golden Lion is a tremendous honor. Perhaps it means I’m getting on in years, but I’ll take it,”
responded Clooney. A frequent visitor to the Lido, Clooney most recently appeared at the festival in 2025 with the dramedy Jay Kelly. Throughout his illustrious career, he has garnered numerous accolades, including Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs.
The 83rd Venice Film Festival is scheduled to run from September 2 to September 12. The jury will be presided over by Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Bride). The official competition lineup will be announced in late July.
