Players will be able to craft varied builds and earn bonuses.
The developers of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era published a developer diary focused on the new gameplay mechanic, “Faction Laws.” This kind of system has not appeared in the series before.
We were searching for a way to deepen faction-specific gameplay variety and bring something fresh and inventive to the game. The laws address precisely that. We want each playthrough to feel distinct — with multiple development paths available instead of a single optimal build and set of strategies.
The developers say that faction laws broaden the traditional gameplay format. In structure, the laws are similar to technology trees found in other games:
We tailored them to the classic “Heroes” formula, which opened up new balancing opportunities. Laws affect factions by granting unique upgrades to creatures of specific tiers and by impacting the economy. That adds more options when building an army and reduces dependence on early access to higher-tier units.
Law points will be awarded in the same way as experience. There are sub-skills and laws that increase the number of points earned, and they can also be gained by capturing creature dwellings on the map:
This means even secondary heroes can consistently bring in new seals. In addition, your towns’ main buildings grant a fixed number of points — which increases as the town grows.
To enact laws, players must actively explore the map and take part in numerous battles. Players will be able to accept or skip any of several laws in each tier, selecting those that fit their particular playstyle.
Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era is slated for early access in 2026; you can add the game to your Steam wishlist via this link.
