Peter Frampton is officially ushering in a new creative chapter. On Tuesday (March 17), the legendary guitarist announced that he will release his first collection of original studio material in 16 years this coming May.

The upcoming album, titled Carry the Light, is scheduled to arrive on May 15. The project features a star-studded lineup of guest contributors. To coincide with the announcement, Frampton shared the lead single, “Buried Treasure,” a track written as a heartfelt tribute to the late Tom Petty.

Reflecting on the project via Instagram, Frampton noted the deep personal connection he feels toward the new music. “This record is a very special one for me,” the rocker shared. “I got to write and produce it with my son Julian, as well as work with some wonderful friends along the way.”

The LP boasts an eclectic roster of talent. Sheryl Crow lends her vocals to “Breaking the Mold,” while H.E.R. trades guitar licks with the Humble Pie veteran on “Islamorada.” Tom Morello makes a powerful appearance on the protest-driven track “Lions at the Gate.”

The guest list continues with Graham Nash on “I’m Sorry Elle,” Benmont Tench on the lead single “Buried Treasure,” and saxophonist Bill Evans featured on “Can You Take Me There” and “Tinderbox.”

This milestone release marks Frampton’s first full-length effort since 2010’s Thank You Mr. Churchill. Over his storied career, the guitarist has secured 14 entries on the Billboard 200, including his 1976 magnum opus Frampton Comes Alive!, which reigned at the top of the charts for 10 weeks.

Carry the Light also serves as Frampton’s first major project since his 2024 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His path to induction was bolstered by a standout performance at the 2023 ceremony alongside Sheryl Crow. Frampton later credited Crow with helping champion his nomination, noting that many industry insiders mistakenly assumed he had already been inducted years prior.
