Critical Role’s third full season, Campaign 3, begins on Oct. 21. The premiere episode will air at 7 p.m. PDT, and will be livestreamed for free on Twitch and YouTube. The actual-play troupe is also partnering with Cinemark Theaters to simulcast the first episode in 20 cities across the U.S.
Campaign 3 picks up following the adventures of the Mighty Nein and the events of the interstitial series Exandria Unlimited, which was led by Dungeon Master Aabria Iyengar. It will take place in Marquet, and include cast members Matthew Mercer, Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, Taliesin Jaffe, Travis Willingham, Sam Riegel, Laura Bailey, and Liam O’Brien.
The partnership with Cinemark comes during a resurgence in COVID-19, brought on by the virus’ delta variant. Polygon reached out to the team at Critical Role to discuss that aspect of the in-person event.
“Everyone’s health and safety is our number one priority,” said a spokesperson via email. “From the moment we started talking to our friends at Cinemark about collaborating, it was crucial to all of us that safety standards be clearly outlined and adhere to state and local mandates. We were pleased to learn that Cinemark already had enhanced safety measures in place, and we encourage everyone interested in attending one of these special screenings to follow any and all guidelines for staying safe and keeping those around you safe too. And, of course, while we were incredibly interested in pursuing this new way to experience our show, everyone is welcome to join us live on Twitch and YouTube.”
They also recommended that attendees visit the Cinemark website for more information.
Fans will be able to learn more about the coming season in a special State of the Role presentation on Thursday, which can be viewed on Critical Role’s Twitch channel.
