Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Named Game of the Year Again — This Time by Japanese Developers

Key insights from Famitsu magazine’s latest annual industry survey.

The prominent Japanese gaming publication Famitsu has unveiled the findings of its yearly poll, which gathers insights from Japan’s most influential developers and industry personalities. This year, respondents distinguished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as their premier title of the year.

The survey featured a roster of high-profile contributors, including Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama, and the long-time lead of the Tekken franchise, Katsuhiro Harada.

The top five rankings were settled as follows:

  1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  2. Ghost of Yotei
  3. Urban Myth Dissolution Center
  4. Donkey Kong Bananza
  5. Mario Kart World

For years, the Famitsu poll has served as a prestigious benchmark where creators vote for their favorite titles. Last year, the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake secured the top spot, joining an elite group of previous winners that includes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, and Death Stranding. By dominating the vote this year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has solidified its reputation as one of the most significant releases anticipated for 2025.
