“The game was forged with an indie heart—a small team exercising complete creative freedom without interference from a parent company or publisher,” says Francois Meurisse, producer for Clair Obscur. “We intentionally partnered with a publisher that prioritizes artistic vision over corporate mandates.”

Sandfall’s project stands in elite company alongside other anticipated titles like Blue Prince, Dispatch, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. The “indie” landscape is more diverse than ever, featuring everything from solo developers to teams of industry veterans. While rigid definitions are difficult to maintain, the gaming community is ultimately the winner when studios like Sandfall are given the freedom to innovate.

In related news, the director of Clair Obscur recently lauded a dedicated player who conquered the game’s most challenging boss through pure skill, eschewing common exploits. “I attempted the same feat during development and couldn’t pull it off,” he admitted.
