Despite swirling rumors, Calvin Harris has confirmed that his much-awaited duet with Miley Cyrus will not be released—though he insists there’s no rift between them.
More than a year after previewing an ocean-inspired EDM track featuring Cyrus’s vocals, the Scottish DJ reignited buzz by sharing a fresh TikTok teaser—this time spotlighting Jessie Reyez on vocals.
His post, captioned “Yes I love it #newmusic #ocean,” initially omitted any reference to Cyrus, prompting fans to demand answers about her absence.
“Where’s Miley?!” one follower lamented, to which Harris responded simply, “I do not know.” Another fan declared the Reyez version superior, a sentiment Harris eagerly echoed.
When voices in the comments clamored exclusively for Cyrus’s take, Harris quipped, “Off you pop then,” later clarifying that his remarks were in jest and underscoring his admiration for her talent.
He went on to assure doubters that there’s no bad blood: “I love Miley,” he wrote, praising the “amazing voice” of the “Flowers” singer and attributing the confusion to crossed wires.
The stir comes on the heels of Harris’s recent releases, including “Blessings” with Clementine Douglas and his solo single “Smoke the Pain Away,” each building anticipation for his next drop.
While no release date has been announced for the ocean-themed record, Harris appears ready to unveil it after first teasing Cyrus’s version back in May 2024.
That earlier snippet captured Cyrus crooning, “We were dancing, we were wild in the ocean… When the crowd is all around me, you’re still all I see,” over Harris’s buoyant production.
In his new TikTok comments, Harris emphasized that Reyez was integral from day one, noting she penned the lyrics and was “first” on the track, despite Cyrus’s later involvement.
He also confirmed that Cyrus’s take is unlikely ever to surface: “I’m afraid not,” he said when asked if her version might still drop, adding “Not possible” to fans pleading for her vocals.
