Cities: Skylines II - Bridges & Ports

Bridges & Ports — Mod Compatibility and Current Status

The Bridges & Ports DLC update for Cities: Skylines II introduces a number of internal changes. While these changes improve the base game, they can also require mod authors to recompile or slightly alter their code. This post summarizes what to expect, how to protect your saves, and where to look for help and updated mods.

1. Patch Day Basics

Quick question first

Playing without mods?

  • If you only use the official game and DLC (for example, the official region packs), you can launch normally once the update is applied.

Playing with mods?

  • If you run custom mods, expect some compatibility issues at launch. Some mods may need updates before they function correctly; running the game with incompatible mods can cause glitches or even make a save file unopenable.

What happens on patch day

  • The game receives the new update and all players will download it.
  • Because the update modifies game systems, authors may need to adjust how their mods interact with the game for them to work again.
  • Mod platforms sometimes flag a mod as “Compatible” for a wide range of versions (for example, all 1.3.* builds). Bridges & Ports being 1.3.6f1 can therefore appear compatible even if the author hasn’t uploaded a tested update yet.
  • Many modders received early access and prepared updates in advance, but not all updates are published at the exact moment the DLC launches.
  • Please be patient — mod authors are volunteers with lives outside of modding. Do not repeatedly demand immediate updates from creators.

2. Back up Your Save Files

Playing before your mods are fully updated can accidentally corrupt or alter a city save. Always make a manual backup before launching the patched game.

  • Open the game prior to the release (for the Bridges & Ports launch this was October 29 at 18:00 CEST) and create a named manual save via the in-game menu. A unique name prevents autosaves from overwriting it.
  • You can also copy your most recent save file to your desktop. After your mods are updated, restore that file to the original folder.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II

3. Managing Broken Mods

Many well-known mod authors had early access and prepared patches; if you’re subscribed to those mods, they’ll update automatically once the author publishes the patch on the mod hosting site (unless you opted out of automatic updates).

In the hours and days following a major update you may see a surge of patch uploads as modders iron out unanticipated issues. Remember that even if a modder told you a patch is ready, they might not be able to publish it immediately. Treat creators with courtesy while they work.

Short version

  • If you know a mod is broken: disable it or remove it from your playset.

There’s no benefit in keeping outdated mods active.

  • Use a management tool like Skyve to audit your collection. Skyve helps identify out-of-date or incompatible mods when your library grows large.

4. The Community Status List

Volunteers in the community compiled a consolidated status sheet listing many popular mods and whether they work after the update. This is not exhaustive but covers the most-used items and is an excellent starting point.

The community-maintained sheet (compiled by kjmci with contributors) is available here: https://bit.ly/ModsBnP

5. Still having problems? Where to get help

  • If a mod is known to be broken, remove it from your playset.

Running knowingly incompatible mods usually causes more issues than it solves. If you want to play before a particular mod is updated, take it out of your active set or disable modding entirely.

  • Check the official troubleshooting post for solutions to many common issues: Troubleshooting guide.
  • Report confirmed game bugs on the Bug Reports forum so Paradox can investigate: Bug Reports. If the problem is mod-related, report it on the mod’s page and contact the mod author instead.
  • Join the Discord and use #cs2-tech-support — community volunteers and moderators often provide helpful guidance: Discord #cs2-tech-support. Please be courteous: volunteers are donating their time.

Temporarily disable mods

If you want to play a clean, vanilla game while keeping your subscribed mods intact, you can either create an empty playset or launch the game with modding disabled by adding the following to the game’s launch options:

--disableModding
