Gearbox has been watching player feedback closely, acknowledging the community conversation around overpowered builds and promising additional options after the crit-knife setup took over the meta.
The team shipped a substantial patch last week aimed squarely at the crit-knife, with “major balance tuning” and several important nerfs. Despite that, reports show the controversial crit knife — widely called “broken” and “overpowered” by players — has resurfaced. Gearbox’s latest update notes coincided with players sharing clips online: “100% CRIT KNIFE IS BACK,” declares one recent post, which includes video evidence.
Still, the update brings plenty of welcome changes. The Weekly Wildcard Mission now guarantees a Legendary shotgun — Bod — which has fans excited. The Weekly Big Encore Boss has switched to a tougher Primordial Guardian Origo variant with an improved loot table, and Maurice’s Black Market vending machine is easier to reach.

Overall, despite the crit-knife setback, many players appreciate the patch’s deliberate improvements. One commentator summed it up on X: “Small patch, but they cooked.” A Reddit thread echoes that sentiment — “It’s Bod season boyo!” — while others simply celebrate the overall improvements: “Hell yeah, perfect!”
Hopefully Gearbox continues this momentum and issues a quick fix for the crit-knife. Our Borderlands 4 review calls the game “undeniably an excellent looter shooter,” so it still stands among the series’ best entries.
