Marc-Alexis Côté said he would never have voluntarily left the company where he spent so many years.
It emerged that the head of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Marc-Alexis Côté, did not choose to abruptly depart Ubisoft, where he had worked for 20 years. The company asked him to step aside after he declined an offer to join a new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, which will oversee Ubisoft’s major franchises, including Assassin’s Creed.
Ubisoft decided to entrust leadership of the Assassin’s Creed franchise to someone who better fits the company’s new organizational structure. I was offered another role, but it did not carry the same scale, authority, or continuity with the work I’ve been doing in recent years. To be clear: I did not leave by choice. I remained in my post until Ubisoft asked me to step down.
Côté stressed that he holds no resentment and will always be grateful for the colleagues, projects, and the shared conviction that together they could build worlds that inspire millions.
