Apple temporarily disabled generated news notification summaries due to false information

News summaries in Apple Intelligence have repeatedly been noticed by users for distorting facts, but Apple only decided to address the issue after receiving a complaint from BBC News.

In the latest beta versions of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3, this feature is temporarily disabled for further improvements. A note has appeared next to the notification summary toggle in the settings, indicating that the feature is in beta status and may contain errors.

This means that only news summaries are currently disabled. Summaries for other types of notifications remain available and are now italicized to distinguish them from regular notifications. Also, the function can now be disabled directly from the lock screen for each individual app: swipe left on the summary notification and disable it from the pop-up menu.

The stable release of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 is tentatively expected in early February.
