Across various Reddit discussions and social media threads, players are lamenting the lack of freedom. Major complaints include the inability to place any buildings beyond the player’s own home and the lack of a season-toggle, which prevents creators from building specialized environments like a permanent winter wonderland or an autumn retreat.

“I had high hopes for this update, but the execution is disappointing,” one user remarked. “The omission of such fundamental features is baffling. While we can now instantly build bridges or toggle the weather, the core experience feels virtually identical to editing my primary island, just with more restrictions.”

In some respects, Slumber Islands are even more limited than the base game. Because players can only house their own character, those dreaming of designing an entirely new residential district for their favorite villagers are out of luck.

“The moment I realized you couldn’t swap seasons or add essential buildings, I completely lost interest,” another player shared. “It makes you wonder what the actual purpose of Slumber Islands is meant to be.”

While having a separate island to prototype layouts is undoubtedly a step forward, the inability to customize seasons or create shared residential spaces feels like a missed opportunity. Without these tools, Slumber Islands function more as a limited testing ground than the definitive creative suite fans desired.
