Borderlands 4 has arrived, capturing the interest of looter-shooter enthusiasts who have long awaited a new installment from Gearbox Software. From the beginning it was apparent the title would face heightened expectations after the franchise’s past successes, yet it still ranked among the most downloaded releases in recent weeks.
According to analyst Raiz Elliott of Alinea, Borderlands 4’s launch was quieter than that of its predecessors, but the numbers remain notable — about 3.1 million downloads in September. A strong showing on Steam combined with steady console sales gives the title a solid chance to stay relevant over time, particularly once the first major discounts hit.
The Borderlands franchise is known for hitting sales quickly, and Elliott notes that discounts could play a key role for the fourth entry. Even before launch many players commented on forums that they weren’t willing to pay the full $70 and would wait for price drops. If the developers deliver a compelling endgame and continue to ship meaningful updates, Borderlands 4 could both retain longtime fans and draw in new players.
