Analysis of the first trailer for the reissue of GTA: Trilogy

Show GTA: Trilogy – Definitive Edition did not leave anyone indifferent. The players were divided into two camps: one liked what they saw, the other did not. What did we see in the trailer?

Of course, this is not the video (this is a 2009 Coca-Cola ad, in which the GTA style is used), but, you see, associations have arisen.

The main complaint is how the re-release characters look. Their models are overtly caricatured. Parallels with the Sims or Fortnite characters immediately arose. But what if it’s done on purpose? Thought: the re-release is being done not only for current platforms, but also for a new generation of gamers. However, this still does not explain why Claude, Tommy and others look like this … Look at least at Joey and Misty. The girl, we recall, works as a prostitute, and, therefore, according to the idea, she should attract with her appearance. Well, how does it attract? ..

The city in the background looks good, but the transport models in the “troika” are more reminiscent of the renderings from some beta version.

The sky looks good, as does the vegetation. There are more palms on the beach in Vice City.

The fingers are finally separated, but Karl’s pants with a belt look exactly the same as in the original game.

The night sky, like the daytime, deserves pleasant words. The difference is obvious.

The rain looks awesome. It seems that the weather, whatever it is, will be happy.

Again, attention to the characters …

The most controversial frame from the trailer. It becomes clear that censorship is now a common thing for new GTAs (in the trailer for the next version of the fifth part, too there is an example). Phil Cassidy’s T-shirt was replaced in GTA: Vice City. At the same time, only the fragment in the center was replaced, while the general shape of the print remained the same. In this case, it would be appropriate to “change” the soldier completely, but the “developers” simply removed the flag of the Confederation, the southern states that fought against the northerners in the American Civil War, including for the preservation of the right to slaves. The southerners lost the war and abolished slavery, and the banner remained a symbol of racism. It is regrettable that in the modern world such an image cannot be perceived correctly, because, in fact, it simply complements the portrait of a fictional character in a work of art, and is not a reflection of someone’s specific views. In general, a minus for censorship and for the fact that Rockstar went on about the hysterical part of society.

Another transport model (Skimmer seaplane from Vice City) that looks like a render object.

On the one hand, the environment looks better, and the reflection in the rear headlight of the car is also clearly visible. On the other hand, the wheels should not be so “sunk into” the body.

Excessive brightness can negatively affect the overall atmosphere. This is especially true for GTA 3. The colors are clearly overdone.

Perhaps the problem with “sunken” wheels will be in all parts of the reissue. It is also worth noting that the position of the taxi body relative to the wheel looks like a lowrider in front of us.

The explosions look great, of course. The players also noticed that the car’s wheels light up – there was no such effect in the original, it could only be achieved with the help of cleo-mods.

The players make fun of the new Tommy, assuming that the hero is now forced to change his last name to Versasyan.

Among the 14 declared languages, Russian also appears, but there is hardly a place for classic phrases like “Wasted” and “Cool fucking.”

Kendl’s skin color has lightened noticeably – she used to be the same tone as her brothers.

And, finally, the frame is not from the trailer, but a screenshot from previous collection compared to the image from the original but modified GTA: San Andreas. By the way, especially attentive people saw that the interior was visible in the windows of the Johnson house. Perhaps, the entrance to the premises will no longer be accompanied by additional loading.

Of course, it was not worth counting on the GTA 5-level graphics, especially since we knew that the project was being created on the basis of Unreal Engine 4. But some nuances, especially the appearance of the characters and censorship, cause confusion. But this is only half the battle – in two and a half weeks we will be able to test how playable GTA: Trilogy – Definitive Edition… So far, the people in charge have not met the high standards set by the Grand Theft Auto series.
