Documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman dies

Acclaimed American documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman has passed away, according to recent media reports. He was 96 years old.

Born in Boston in 1930, Wiseman became a titan of observational cinema. His legendary filmography includes such profound works as Titicut Follies, Hospital, National Gallery, A Couple, and Menus-Plaisirs – Les Troisgros.

In 2016, Wiseman’s monumental contributions to the craft were recognized with an Academy Honorary Award. In his later years, he remained creatively active, appearing as an actor in French cinematic projects, including the biographical drama Jane Austen Ruined My Life and Private Life alongside Jodie Foster.
