An Update to the Release Schedule
Greetings City Builders,

We’d like to take a moment to update you on the progress of our forthcoming releases. We understand many of you eagerly anticipate new content, and we want to be as transparent as possible about our current status.

Both Modern Architecture and Urban Promenades Creator Packs have been finalized by their developers. However, in our ongoing commitment to enhance the base game, the Economy Patch, Detailers Patch, and Decorations Patch remain our priority. We recognize the Asset Editor as a pivotal feature necessary to fulfill our promise of offering comprehensive mod support. To ensure we maintain focus, we’ve decided to delay the release of the Creator Packs to Q4. This will also impact the Bridges & Ports Expansion, now slated for release in Q2 2025. Our efforts remain dedicated to improving the base game before concentrating on paid content. Our objective is to ensure the community is pleased with the game’s current state, and once we achieve that, we will be thrilled to share these fantastic packs with you!

Hello everyone! It’s been some time since our last update, so we wanted to take this opportunity to share what we are currently prioritizing. While we do not have a set timeline to provide at this moment, we can outline our immediate focuses. Leading our priorities list is support for custom assets in the Editor and the finalization of the console version of Cities: Skylines II. These tasks are handled by separate teams, allowing us to make concurrent progress. For clarity, let’s discuss each individually.

Asset Editor
The Asset Editor has posed more challenges than anticipated, but we’re making substantial progress. Updated builds are being shared with the modding beta group for them to familiarize themselves with the Editor and offer feedback on its functionality. Although we’ve conducted initial tests on importing, saving, and sharing processes, additional work is required before releasing the beta version to the public. Two critical features must be completed for asset support: Serialization and Virtual Texturing. Serialization entails converting meshes, textures, and asset data into a shareable file, akin to the .cok files created when saving maps. Virtual Texturing is vital for optimization, reducing GPU memory usage.

Once these features are ready, we can finalize the asset section of the Editor and establish a release timeline. We’re eager to see the creative assets our community will produce, and we’re just as excited to support their creations.

Console
Regarding the console version of Cities: Skylines II, there are no new updates beyond our previous communications. We continue to work diligently on it and will announce an updated release window as soon as possible.

Hotels & Tourism
We acknowledge your concerns regarding this area and assure you it’s our top gameplay issue under review. We’re adjusting the probability of hotels appearing in commercial zones and scrutinizing all related bug reports. We’ll provide more information once we have a complete fix, similar to our approach with homelessness.

Detailer’s Patch #2
As promised, additional detailing features are in development. The Decorations Menu from patch 1.1.8f1 was merely the beginning. Although we’re still working on this content and aren’t ready to disclose specifics, we can reveal that we’re exploring road-related decorations and a line tool for placing props and trees. Detailer’s Patch #2 will focus more on features than on introducing new assets. While we expect to offer a few new items, it won’t match the variety of the first installment.

Bug Fixes & Feedback
In addition to the aforementioned points, we are actively addressing bugs and incorporating your feedback wherever possible. We prioritize bug fixes based on their impact on gameplay, with crashes being top priority. If you experience a crash, please share the details to help us reproduce and rectify the issue. We also monitor community discussions to address the most pressing issues, aiming to enhance your overall experience. Your detailed bug reports and save files are invaluable in helping us diagnose problems and verify our fixes.

Following the Economy 2.0 patch, we received a wealth of feedback regarding the game’s difficulty. Some of you enjoyed the new challenge, while others did not. We understand that using game options that disable achievements is not an ideal solution for those who seek a balance between creative freedom and challenging gameplay. Over the next few months, we aim to find ways to offer both fun and challenging experiences for our diverse player base.

Thank you for all your support, detailed and constructive feedback, and for being a positive force in our community. While our primary focus remains on game development, we frequently check in on discussions and appreciate everything you share with us. Our commitment is to make Cities: Skylines II the best possible game, and we will continue our efforts until that goal is realized.
