Alison Wonderland has delivered a resolute message to sexist critics online: she isn’t afraid to stand her ground.
The Australian electronic music sensation shared her frustration after her post—featuring candid moments with collaborator Shaquille O’Neal—was inundated with lewd remarks.
As previously noted, Wonderland and Shaq joined forces for a back-to-back DJ set at the Aftershock festival in Chandler, Arizona. On social media she quipped, “DJ who plays basketball + DJ carrying a basketball in her belly = DJ cradling other DJs’ bellies like basketballs. Simple math.”
That “basketball” she mentioned is, in fact, her second child.
The 7’1″ Shaquille O’Neal—towering two feet above the DJ—responded affectionately: “Love you. Why is it that every time we perform together, you’re doing a B2B with a baby?”

Soon after, the post was overrun with inappropriate, sexualized comments—behavior Wonderland labeled “idiotic.”
“I see so many comments like this whenever I post a photo with a man,” she tweeted. “People assume I’m sleeping with whoever appears beside me… even when I announced my pregnancy, there were remarks like ‘oh she must love getting cream-pied.’ Guys, I’m married with a child. It’s not radical. Sorry—not sorry—because I’m a badass. Unacceptable behavior.”
In another post on X, she voiced solidarity with women in electronic music battling similar misogyny.
“Shout out to all the women in the EDM scene who have to endure creeps,” she wrote. “I see you—and I’ll take them down for you.”
Wonderland’s reputation for resilience is well-earned.
She topped Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart with her 2018 release Awake, which also peaked at No. 88 on the Billboard 200. All three of her LPs—Run (No. 6), Awake (No. 7) and Loner—have reached the top 10 on Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart.
She’s graced Coachella’s stages four times—most notably in 2018 as the festival’s highest-billed female DJ—and has headlined her “Temple of Wonderland” series at Red Rocks Amphitheatre seven times.
Recognized by Rolling Stone AU/NZ as one of the 50 Greatest Australian Electronic Acts of All Time, she secured the No. 5 spot on that prestigious list.
Born Alexandra Sholler, Wonderland is gearing up to release her fourth studio album, Ghost World, on October 3 via EMI Music Australia. Co-written and co-produced with Dylan Ragland (Party Favor, SIDEPIECE) and mastered by Dale Becker (Billie Eilish, SZA), the record features the singles “Get Started,” “Again? F—.” and “iwannaliveinadream.”
