Activision Isn’t Abandoning PS4 and Xbox One: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Shows How Consoles Age

Activision, unlike Electronic Arts, hasn’t written off older consoles. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches on November 14, 2025 for PS4 and Xbox One — a strategy that gives the publisher a commercial advantage.

EA’s Battlefield 6 is limited to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A large number of players still stick with last-gen hardware, and that audience will likely drive strong sales for Black Ops 7.

ElAnalistaDeBits tested how the shooter looks across platforms. PS4 owners are worse off — the version for the older console runs at a noticeably lower resolution. The video’s creators noted that the PlayStation 4 can do more, but developers no longer give it much attention.

They report that the graphical concessions in Black Ops 7 on PS4 are more pronounced than in the previous entry. Textures, lighting and object detail (LOD) have been reduced, and some environments even appear as if taken from a different game.

Performance is mixed as well. The console attempts to maintain 60 frames per second but frequently dips during combat scenes, falling to around 50–55 fps, whereas the PS5 version consistently delivers a steady 60 fps.
