The legendary actor and comedic icon Jim Carrey has been presented with the Honorary César, France’s highest cinematic distinction, in recognition of his extraordinary career. The gala ceremony took place at its traditional venue in the heart of Paris.
The award was presented by acclaimed filmmaker Michel Gondry, who directed Carrey in the masterpiece *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind*. Upon accepting the trophy, Carrey expressed his profound gratitude for the honor and touched upon his family’s historical connection to France.
“Roughly three hundred years ago, my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Marc François Carrey, set sail from Saint-Malo to Canada. […] Perhaps this recognition is exactly what my family has been seeking… If you want fortune to smile upon you, you must first offer a smile to it. It is a difficult task, but one we must pursue. I will cherish this memory forever. I will always look back on it with a smile. My life is paradise,” Carrey remarked, delivering his heartfelt speech in French.
Other notable winners of the evening included Richard Linklater, named Best Director for *Nouvelle Vague*, while Paul Thomas Anderson’s *Battle After Battle* took home the award for Best Foreign Film. The complete list of laureates is available at this link.
