You can polish your gym badges in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming to the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 19. With them comes a fresh set of paint on a bunch of odd features that were once designed for the Nintendo DS’ touch screen.

These games were billed by the developer as “faithful” remakes of the 2006 games. However, with the first ones being on the Nintendo DS system, this left some folks wondering if some of the weirder aspects of the originals would make it in. One of those beloved old features was a screen in which you could polish your gym badges using the touchscreen — a specific, unique flourish that helped these Pokémon games shine.

As it turns out, that feature will be included in the remakes, a representative confirmed to Polygon during a preview event for the game.

In the originals, you could open up your trainer card and view your badges sitting in their case. If you tapped the badges with your stylus, they would make a dinging sound, as if they were metal. However, if you rubbed your stylus on the badges, it would make a squeaky sound. If you did that long enough, the badges would go from duller colors to brighter, more vivid ones, to give the effect of you cleaning the badges. If you kept going, the badges would sparkle.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be released to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 19.
