In a conversation with TechRaptor, Chmielarz remarked that Larian essentially suffered from “bad timing” regarding how the news broke. “In my view, Larian is certainly not acting out of malice,” he said. “From their recent statements, it’s clear they are performing some deep soul-searching to determine exactly what this technology means for their future.”

When it comes to his own project, Witchfire, Chmielarz maintains a strict stance against using generative AI in the development pipeline. He admitted to using AI tools occasionally to polish placeholder text—noting that English is his second language—but confirmed that the technology is not being utilized elsewhere in the game’s creation.

Chmielarz also offered a thoughtful take on why the backlash against AI is so prominent, suggesting that it highlights a deep appreciation for the human element in creativity: “People crave a connection with other human beings through the medium of art.”

Larian has confirmed they are prioritizing a new Divinity project over a potential Baldur’s Gate 4, as the team felt it was time to move on from the D&D ruleset.
