Walmart Leak Dims Metroid Prime 2 Remastered Hopes as Pikmin 2 Surfaces for Switch Online’s GameCube Library

Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 Leaked for NSO

The inclusion of Metroid Prime 2 makes a certain amount of sense, especially since its predecessor received a full high-definition overhaul with Metroid Prime Remastered in 2023. This NSO release suggests, however, that the sequels may simply be ported rather than given the same ground-up remaster treatment. Pikmin 2 is a more puzzling choice; Nintendo already offers a visually enhanced Pikmin 1+2 bundle on the eShop, making it unusual for them to include the original version in a subscription service.

This isn’t entirely without precedent, though. Link’s Awakening arrived on the Game Boy app despite the existence of the 2019 Switch remake, and Super Mario 64 was made available even after its inclusion in the 3D All-Stars collection. Because NSO games are typically raw ROMs, fans are now speculating whether Pikmin 2 will retain its original real-world product placements—like Duracell batteries—which were scrubbed from the recent HD re-release.

Reflecting on the series’ roots, PS5 architect Mark Cerny previously described playing the original Pikmin as a “transformative” moment in his career, noting his deep appreciation for Nintendo’s storytelling.
