Valve Discontinues LCD Steam Deck to Focus on OLED Model

The entry-level variant is rapidly vanishing from retail shelves; it is already unavailable in the U.S., and only a few units remain in international markets. No further restocks are expected.

The LCD-equipped model served as the pioneer of the handheld’s lineup until the debut of the OLED successor. One of the primary drivers behind its discontinuation was the rising cost of memory components, which significantly eroded profit margins for the more affordable version. Recent Black Friday promotions further accelerated the liquidation of remaining inventory.

With the LCD model’s departure, the 512GB Steam Deck OLED becomes the new standard entry point, carrying an MSRP of $549 compared to the LCD’s original $399 price tag. While prices are likely to stabilize at current levels, there remains a possibility of future adjustments.

This strategic shift positions the console as a more premium, modern device, though it effectively raises the barrier to entry for budget-conscious gamers.
