Upcoming Birthday & Asset Editor and Console Status

Concluding Our Global Tour & Looking Forward

We’ve just launched our eighth and final Region Pack, concluding our global tour—at least for the time being! While we still have a few travel tips to share and a contest to wrap up, our final stop in the Northeast USA completes this series. Over recent months, 31 highly skilled creators have collaborated to bring you assets from every corner of the world, and witnessing the ingenuity these packs have sparked has been truly remarkable. Thank you for accompanying us on this worldwide journey!

As we conclude this expedition, we’re setting our sights on the future. Our birthday is fast approaching, and we have a special treat in store for our players. Additionally, we’d like to provide a brief update on the status of the console version and Asset Editor for Cities: Skylines II—detailed information can be found below.

Thank you for being part of this adventure; we eagerly anticipate celebrating 10 amazing years of Cities with you—don’t forget to join us on March 10th!

Console

We are consistently advancing the console version, with our main focus on enhancing performance and stability. However, despite making progress, there are several aspects we need to refine to achieve the quality and experience we aim to deliver to you, our valued players.

We understand that many are eagerly anticipating the console release, so to set clear expectations: a release will not occur before summer. We aim to avoid speculative estimates and prefer to offer dependable information when we approach a launch-ready state.

Our objective remains steadfast: to introduce Cities: Skylines II to consoles in optimal form.

Asset Editor

The integration of the Asset Editor has presented more technical challenges than initially expected, due to the extensive array of built-in assets impacted by the revisions. Nevertheless, progress continues. Our current focus is on eliminating Unity dependencies to ensure smoother, more responsive, and reliable asset loading—both during loading screens and when switching playsets in the Paradox Mods UI. Absent this, the game experiences prolonged freezes and may become unstable. We aim to support subscriptions to a large volume of assets with minimal performance implications.

Additionally, we are working on making the importation and processing of assets more asynchronous to minimize identifier conflicts during serialization. Assets created on various machines can often cause these issues, leading to confusion within the game about which assets it is attempting to load.

Rest assured, we are committed to overcoming these obstacles, and our dedicated team is actively progressing towards resolving them. We fully understand the significance of custom assets to you, and personally to us as well, and we’ll continue to keep you updated on our progress as soon as more information is available.

We value your patience and eagerness, and we will provide further updates as we continue to shape the future of Cities: Skylines together. Stay connected, and we’ll see you next week for our anniversary celebration!
