In stark contrast to Ubisoft’s historical tendency for flamboyant reveals—once famously featuring a backflipping, panda-led marching band—the unveiling of The Division 3 was remarkably understated. A blog post in late 2023 confirmed Gerighty would take the helm of the entire franchise, overseeing the threequel and its various spin-offs after completing his duties as creative director for Star Wars Outlaws, which launched in the summer of 2024.

“Gerighty’s primary mission is to assemble the development team for Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 at Massive Entertainment, while ensuring that support for The Division 2 remains a high priority,” Ubisoft stated during the initial announcement.

Since the core team only began forming about a year and a half ago, fans should likely prepare for a significant wait before any concrete gameplay or release dates surface. It also remains to be seen whether recent restructuring and layoffs at Massive Entertainment have influenced the game’s production timeline.

In the meantime, Ubisoft is revisiting one of its most acclaimed concepts: a revamped Survival mode for The Division 2 is in development. This “updated take” on the survival-extraction formula promises transparent communication and heavy community involvement during its creation.
