Eclipse Glow Games has outlined its approach to difficulty and player defeats.
Eclipse Glow Games revealed its difficulty philosophy for the upcoming action game Tides of Annihilation. Producer Kun Fu says the team aims to craft boss encounters that feel grand and cinematic while avoiding overly punitive penalties for mistakes.
“We pay close attention to how repeated attempts feel. Our aim is to minimize unnecessary retries while keeping the sense of continuity in both the story and the combat.”
According to the producer, each encounter is crafted with its role in the narrative in mind: some bosses push the plot forward, others challenge player skill or provide an emotional beat. Certain fights will include checkpoints or short pauses to let players recover. Additionally, players may be rewarded even in defeat to support subsequent attempts. The studio has not disclosed further details of this system.
Tides of Annihilation takes place in a reimagined London that has suffered an otherworldly invasion. The protagonist, Gwendolyn—the sole survivor of the siege—can summon spectral Knights of the Round Table. She must fight to save her sister, search for the Holy Grail, and confront Avalon’s demigods who threaten to tear down the barriers between worlds.
The developers promise fast-paced combat, a branching skill tree, varied enemies, and more than 30 boss encounters. The studio estimates a full playthrough will exceed 30 hours. The game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though an exact release date has not yet been announced.
