The Terrys, an Australian indie-rock quintet, have honored the late Ozzy Osbourne by delivering their own rendition of Black Sabbath’s classic “Changes” during their latest session on triple j’s celebrated covers segment, Like a Version.

Riding the momentum of their self-titled third album, released in early July, the Gerringong-based ensemble returned to the triple j studios to showcase one of their own compositions before taking on a cover track, in keeping with Like a Version’s format.

They opened their set with a fresh take on the vinyl-exclusive track “Snake Oil,” which only achieved a broader release last week; for their cover, they selected the poignant anthem “Changes,” honoring a recently departed legend.

First unveiling on Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Vol. 4, “Changes” marked a notable shift from the band’s signature heavy riffs, revealing a tender, melodic facet of their repertoire. The song has since been celebrated as one of their most emotionally resonant pieces. In 2003, Ozzy Osbourne revisited “Changes” alongside his daughter Kelly for her debut album of identical title—a rendition that secured his inaugural U.K. No. 1 single.

“We didn’t want to do something like ‘Iron Man’ because that’s not who we are,” vocalist Jacob Finch shared in a post-set interview. “‘Changes’ felt like the obvious choice—it’s a song that really moves you.”

Osbourne died on Tuesday, July 22, at 76 years old, merely 17 days after his final performance at the Back to the Beginning concert held in Birmingham, England.

Since its inception in 2004, Like a Version has evolved from an impromptu acoustic showcase into a high-production studio event. Over the past two decades, artists such as Billie Eilish, Childish Gambino, and Arctic Monkeys have contributed inventive reinterpretations of iconic songs.
