Holding a chain and reaching for a hand hold in Turnip Mountain

You’re not always in attack mode — holding a button retracts the arms so you can roll across ledges. Once I grew bolder I began building speed by rolling, then launching myself off platforms and firing my arms out to arrest my fall mid-descent.

Grabbing handholds depends on pivoting an arm through a full range of motion, which is where the analog sticks shine: the left and right sticks rotate the respective hands around their current hold. It feels a little awkward at first, but the finesse becomes intuitive fast. Once you master the hand-over-hand rhythm, you’re eager to reach for the next grip. The full game promises to be “short but sweet,” with nine distinct biomes I’m keen to tackle. Turnip Mountain is coming soon to PC.

A player before me destroyed a bridge in this Steam Next Fest demo, so I had to build it again in this narrative adventure where your choices have consequences for others
