Ubisoft has finally delivered the offline option for The Crew 2 that it promised. The update was announced last year amid the wider Stop Killing Games movement, though Ubisoft frames the change as a reaction to “player feedback” rather than explicitly citing the campaign.
In its press release Ubisoft states, “Thanks to player feedback, a new hybrid mode allowing both online and offline play is now available,” and reiterates the message in a recent showcase video. The company adds that this change is “a major milestone in ensuring the game’s longevity, keeping it accessible for years to come.”
With the EU’s Stop Destroying Videogames initiative advancing toward the legislative stage after collecting roughly 1.4 million signatures, it’s hard to ignore the campaign’s influence — even if Ubisoft doesn’t name it directly. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot acknowledged the pressure during a shareholder Q&A earlier this year, noting that “support for all games cannot last forever” and that “this is a far-reaching issue, and we’re working on it.”

Regardless of Ubisoft’s wording, adding an offline option is a clear positive. Some early reports on Reddit indicate that progress made while offline may not merge with your online save, so you might want to wait before switching modes — but as a means of preserving access to the game, it’s a substantial step forward.
Ubisoft has said a similar hybrid update for The Crew: Motorfest is planned, but this doesn’t restore the original title that was taken offline and sparked the controversy. In response, the community has launched a custom server project called The Crew Unlimited to keep the first game playable.
“Stop Killing Games has actually changed the timeline”: as the EU petition reaches its successful close, the campaign’s founder says the “unending overtime” has left him ready to “take a break for the next 10 years,” though he plans to remain involved until the work is complete.
