An ambitious developer set out to tell a tale of vengeance against a medieval backdrop.
The medieval role-playing game Tales of Old Dominus has been released recently.
The project is largely the work of a single creator, with “some components programmed and written with help from friends.”
He presents the story of Erik, who embarks on a path of revenge after a failed uprising and the abduction of his sister:
When corrupt aristocrats proclaimed the Right of the First Night, an uprising erupted. Peasants and some nobles joined forces and waged a desperate war that ended at the Battle of Brides. The rebels were wiped out and the remaining fighters scattered. You are one of those survivors — Erik of Voldham — who returned to his village to find it razed, its people slaughtered, and his sister taken by the attackers.
The game features a dynamic survival system: you must keep your character supplied with food, water, and warmth. Combat spans both melee and ranged encounters, and Erik can also attempt stealthy approaches.
Erik’s ascent begins in a forest camp. Craft everything from bolts and arrows to garments. Improve and govern villages, towns, and even fortresses. Attract new settlers, generate income, and recruit fighters to lead into battle. But keep in mind — loyalty demands a price.
