Peter Jackson to receive honorary Palme d’Or

Renowned filmmaker Peter Jackson, the visionary behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, is set to receive the prestigious Honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The announcement was officially made by the festival’s board of directors.

“Cannes has been a defining chapter in my cinematic journey. I first visited the Cannes Film Market in 1988 with my debut feature, Bad Taste, and later returned in 2001 to showcase an early cut of The Fellowship of the Ring—both were pivotal milestones in my career. This festival has always championed bold, visionary storytelling, and I am profoundly grateful to Cannes for this recognition among the very creators and artists whose work continues to inspire me,” Jackson expressed in his gratitude.

The New Zealand director will be presented with the accolade during the festival’s opening ceremony on May 12. The full official selection is scheduled to be unveiled on April 9. This year, the jury will be led by acclaimed director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy).
