The transition of this classic title to the Switch 2 has not gone as smoothly as anticipated.
Earlier this February, Nintendo launched the enhanced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Switch 2, promising native 4K resolution and a fluid 60 frames per second. However, shortly after its debut, a wave of players began reporting significant disappointment regarding the game’s visual performance.
Much of the current discourse stems from a Reddit thread where a user revealed they successfully secured a refund for the upgrade. According to the post, Nintendo’s support team approved the request after the user argued that the Switch 2 version actually looked worse than the original game. Remarkably, despite the company’s notoriously strict stance on digital refunds, the representative processed the claim in about ninety seconds following a brief review.
The user suggests that the game may be utilizing upscaled Full HD rather than a native 4K output. Their observations point toward the use of aggressive anti-aliasing and heavy filtering, which results in a perceived lack of sharpness and causes distant textures to appear noticeably blurred.
Comparing the new release to the original Wii U version running in native 4K via the Cemu emulator, the player noted that the official paid upgrade failed to meet the visual standards set by community-driven emulation. Other users chimed in with further criticisms, pointing out that while the gameplay targets 60 fps, the user interface appears to remain locked at 30 fps.
Similar stories of successful refunds have surfaced from other console owners in the comments. Many in the community view these easy cancellations as a tacit admission of technical flaws, prompting more players to contact support and voice their dissatisfaction with the state of the port.
