Once seaworthy, players can venture into the “deep sea offshore region,” a high-stakes zone offering immense rewards. This vast territory features tropical archipelagos with procedural resources, floating hubs teeming with vendors and casinos, and mysterious ghost ships. Additionally, the waters are patrolled by “Scientist” NPC fleets, introducing a new layer of tactical naval combat.
The Scientists guarding these ghost ships and offshore installations have also undergone a comprehensive AI refinement. Previously, these NPCs functioned with omniscient precision, making stealth nearly impossible.
“Veterans of the game know that flanking Scientists often resulted in an instant, superhuman 180-degree response,” Facepunch explained. “This forced players into either extreme long-range sniping or camping bottlenecks, reducing high-stakes encounters to a mere test of resource attrition and ‘cheese’ tactics.”
The update fundamentally shifts this dynamic, starting with the Scientists stationed at oil rigs, ghost ships, and deep-sea islands. These refined NPCs no longer possess “wall-hacking” vision; they now rely on auditory cues and line-of-sight. This allows clever players to use distractions and baiting maneuvers to gain a tactical advantage. Furthermore, the AI has become more cautious; they will now utilize smoke grenades, coordinate team rushes, or seek cover when under sniper fire rather than blindly charging into kill zones.
