Trouble is brewing within PlayStation Studios. Haven Studios’ upcoming live-service shooter, Fairgame$, is reportedly stumbling into the same pitfalls that led to the recent downfall of Concord.
Reports from Detective Seeds indicate that approximately 50 contract employees were recently informed that their agreements would not be renewed. This decision has sent ripples of concern through the development team, where many believe that a project of this magnitude requires more hands on deck, not fewer, to reach completion.
The catalyst for these cuts appears to be underwhelming performance in internal playtests. Sources claim the game was judged to be nowhere near ready for the spotlight. One particularly disappointing internal showcase is even cited as a primary factor behind the departure of the studio’s founder, Jade Raymond. Although Sony had previously signaled a 2025 release window, this recent instability and harsh feedback have cast a long shadow over the project’s future.
Industry analysts suggest that Sony is now treading carefully, waiting to see how Bungie’s Marathon performs before committing further. The heist and extraction genre has seen better days: Payday 3 failed to gain traction, and Xbox’s Contraband was ultimately shelved, making Sony increasingly wary of current market trends.
While the studio remains operational for now, the internal atmosphere is reportedly fraught with tension. The final fate of Fairgame$ currently sits with Sony’s top brass, and the next few months will likely determine whether the project survives or joins the list of canceled live-service titles.
