Brace yourselves for a new level of immersion—or perhaps intrusion. Sony has officially filed a patent for a system designed to generate bespoke, AI-powered podcasts featuring iconic video game characters. Imagine the protagonist of your latest adventure discussing your specific playstyle or offering real-time news updates directly through your console.

The concept, titled "LLM-BASED GENERATIVE PODCASTS FOR GAMERS," was recently discovered in the World Intellectual Property Organization database. According to the filing, these podcasts would deliver "unique, personalized news content" tailored to the specific interests of a player. Although the patent was made public recently, it appears Sony has been refining this vision since early 2024.

The patent describes a scenario where your PlayStation 5 dashboard might display a prompt such as, "Your Custom Podcast for Today is Ready." Sony explains that these audio experiences could be narrated by a character from a game the user has already played, creating a bridge between gameplay and supplementary content.

For instance, Aloy from the *Horizon* series might take a break from hunting machines to offer tactical critiques, such as Sony's own example: "You might want to try a spin move on the boss next time!" To facilitate this, the AI would need access to your player profile and gameplay statistics. While this raises the usual questions regarding data privacy and security, the patent implies that this level of personalization is a natural extension of the hardware ecosystem.

The patent even notes that the AI might include lighthearted banter or jokes at the player's expense based on their performance. Whether gamers find this charming or condescending remains to be seen, but Sony is clearly betting on a future where Large Language Models (LLMs) make the console experience more conversational.

In related news: The Epic Games Store chief recently stated that the platform will not "police" how developers implement generative AI, leaving it up to players to decide which titles to support.
