Unsurprisingly, Mario Kart World has emerged as the definitive juggernaut of the Nintendo Switch 2 era. Since its debut as a flagship launch title last summer, the racer has amassed a staggering 14.03 million units sold, factoring in both standalone purchases and hardware bundles. This performance places the title in a league of its own, outstripping its nearest competitor by a margin of nearly 10 million copies.
The runner-up spot currently belongs to Donkey Kong Bananza, which has moved 4.25 million units since its July release. Close on its heels is Pokémon Legends: Z-A, recording 3.89 million units on the new hardware. Interestingly, when combining its performance across both generations—8.41 million on the original Switch and its current Switch 2 sales—the Pokémon title boasts a cumulative total of 12.3 million units, steadily closing in on Mario Kart’s exclusive lead.
Further down the rankings, Kirby Air Riders has secured 1.76 million units. Notably, over half of these sales—approximately 900,000—were generated in Japan, signaling the franchise’s enduring regional appeal. Having only launched on November 20, the title has achieved these impressive numbers in less than three months on the market.
According to Nintendo’s latest financial disclosure, total software sales for the Switch 2 have reached 37.93 million units. Meanwhile, legacy Switch software saw a 12.1% year-on-year decline, totaling 108.93 million units. Nintendo noted that the steady momentum is being bolstered by a “wide variety of titles released by software publishers, providing a solid lineup” for the new ecosystem.
