They say a little charisma goes a long way, but in the world of Overwatch, it seems Soldier: 76’s latest look is providing more than just aesthetic appeal—it’s granting him a tactical, albeit accidental, advantage. Following the debut of Blizzard’s Valentine’s-themed “Loverwatch” collection, the “Charming 76” legendary skin has introduced a bizarre glitch that renders the veteran hero nearly impossible to target under certain conditions.
Over the weekend, a wave of community reports highlighted the “Invisible Prince” phenomenon. Players shared footage where Soldier: 76 appeared as little more than a disembodied head and a fluttering cape. While the character model renders correctly at close range, his torso and limbs essentially evaporate once he moves approximately 20 meters away from an opponent. Although the game still registers damage if you manage to strike his invisible frame, hitting a phantom target is a Herculean task for most players.
Curiously, the transparency issue doesn’t appear to be universal. While the bug has been confirmed in training modes and standard matchmaking, testing by Polygon indicated that Soldier: 76 remains fully visible during third-person Stadium matches.
Cosmetic and model discrepancies have been a persistent hurdle since the launch of Overwatch‘s second era. From Hanzo’s strangely contorted waist in certain victory poses to Ana’s recent Lunar New Year skin, which displays entirely different colors in-game compared to its preview, the art team has had its hands full with visual bugs.
Blizzard is aware of the vanishing Soldier and plans to deploy a fix shortly. A representative confirmed that the issue is slated for correction in the 2.21.0.2 update, arriving this Tuesday, February 24. Until the patch goes live, players struggling to track the invisible prince may find success with beam-focused heroes like Zarya, Mei, or Moira, whose wide-reaching attacks bypass the need for precise visual tracking.
