Developers often draw on their own life experiences when creating games.
In Bully — often described as a “GTA set in a school” — Rockstar crafted a range of cliques and situations. It seems that several details were inspired by the childhood of one of the game’s creators.
Former environment artist Andrew Wood, who worked on Bully, told Retro Gamer about the influence of Rockstar’s co-founder:
“We knew that many of the moments actually came from Dan Houser’s childhood — he was the writer.
He projected himself into the narrative, but we’ve all been through school and its social groups and stereotypes. It resonated with a lot of our own childhood memories.”
