Sarah Bond Confirms New Xbox is in Advanced Stage of Development

Following the announcement of her departure as President of Xbox, Sarah Bond issued a farewell letter to her team, revealing that “our next-generation console is already at an advanced stage of development.” Bond noted that she is stepping down to pursue her “next personal and professional chapter,” a move that comes despite her long-standing reputation as Phil Spencer’s likely successor.

Throughout her eight-year tenure, Bond spearheaded significant milestones, including the rapid expansion of Xbox gaming on PC and via the cloud. She also championed the brand’s multi-platform initiative, a strategy designed to bring Xbox titles to a broader array of devices and players worldwide.

The ongoing progress of the next console underscores that this leadership transition will not hinder Microsoft’s long-term hardware roadmap or its vision for the future of gaming.

She pointed to the 2022 acquisition of Activision Blizzard as a defining strategic moment that accelerated the brand’s evolution. To ensure a seamless transition, Bond will remain as a special advisor to incoming leader Asha Sharma. Simultaneously, Matt Booty has been promoted from Head of Xbox Game Studios to Chief Content Officer.

Bond concluded by stating that the industry is currently weathering a massive technological shift. She believes the new leadership team is perfectly positioned to navigate this next era, maintaining the momentum of current projects while pushing forward with the next generation of hardware.
