In a recent interview, Rockstar Games co‑founder Dan Houser spoke about an unrealized studio project that would have taken players to a medieval setting infused with mythological elements. The concept never progressed to full development.
Houser clarified the idea existed only at the concept stage and that a script was never begun. He nevertheless believes the concept could have evolved into a fully realized game.
“We experimented with a knights concept and explored a mythological take on the idea. I still like the concept.”
Rockstar is best known for the GTA and Red Dead Redemption series, but the studio previously released a wider variety of titles, including the Midnight Club racing games and experimental sports projects like Table Tennis. According to Houser, the attempt to create a medieval title was one of many experimental directions the studio pursued.
Interestingly, rumors about a medieval game surfaced back in 2019, though their accuracy was uncertain. Now that Dan Houser has confirmed the project existed, it’s clear the concept was real.
