Today we have two pieces of news directly concerning Take-Two. There’s good news and bad news. Let’s start with the bad one.
Currently, the game industry is suffering from massive layoffs. During the pandemic, when people turned to video games en masse, studios hired more employees, but after, the interest from players noticeably waned while the payroll remained the same. Against this backdrop, T2 seemed a paragon of stability. In February, Strauss Zelnick stated that the company he oversees had no plans to terminate employment relationships with its employees. However, it has now come to light through Bloomberg that Take-Two intends to lay off 5% of its staff. With 11,580 jobs (as reported in the last fiscal report), this amounts to 579 people. This move will help the GTA and RDR publisher cut expenses by 35 million dollars. An additional 140 million is expected to be saved by canceling several projects.
User Kurakasis, who dedicates time to finding information about new titles through trademark registrations, reports: T2 is gearing up to announce something within the Mafia series. It’s hard to say what it’s about at this point. It could be an update for the “Trilogy” on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, a mobile “Mafia”, or the fourth installment. According to rumors from a year ago, Mafia 4, is supposed to be a prequel to the already told stories. Supposedly, the game’s events will take place in the 1920s in Sicily, the Italian island where Cosa Nostra originated.
