Although the series often moves in thematic trilogies, Nakanishi emphasized that Requiem serves as a pivot. Despite being the ninth installment, its story steers away from the recent Winters saga, choosing instead to reconnect with the foundational lore established across the first six games.
“We are incredibly grateful for the success of Resident Evil 7 and 8, but those titles were intentionally designed to be somewhat isolated from the events preceding Resident Evil 6,” Nakanishi explained. “With this project, we felt the timing was perfect to return to the series’ core narrative roots.”
The director also lightheartedly noted that fans can thank the “perfectionist” female staff at Capcom for the ruggedly handsome “hot uncle” look of Leon S. Kennedy, aiming for a design “destined to make hearts flutter.”
