Developer Gregarious Games and publisher Numskull Games have announced the official release of Reptilian Rising on Steam and Nintendo Switch. This unique tactical RPG swaps traditional grids for a digital tabletop aesthetic, where players lead a “dream team” of historical figures against a bizarre army of reptilian invaders.
The premise is as wild as it sounds. As flesh-hungry lizardmen and cybernetic “Dictatorsaurs” threaten humanity across various timelines, players must recruit legends like Julius Caesar, Robin Hood, and Albert Einstein to turn the tide. Each hero brings their own brand of chaos—from Caesar’s tactical prowess to Einstein’s reality-bending super-science.
Combat revolves around “Time Energy,” a resource that allows for spectacular temporal abilities. Players can summon clones of their troops, call in reinforcements, or open time-gates to move units across the board instantly. The game features a “Time After Time” mechanic, encouraging players to revisit missions, tackle bonus objectives, and uncover hidden secrets by hopping between different eras.
Greg Hall of Gregarious Games described the project as an unfiltered childhood dream brought to life. “In a world that plays it safe, I didn’t,” Hall stated. “Reptilian Rising is about no filters and no compromises.”
With its distinct “miniature” art style and ’80s-inspired neon aesthetic, Reptilian Rising offers a fresh take on the tactical RPG genre. The game is available now on the Nintendo eShop and Steam.
