No new PvE missions are planned for the foreseeable future.
Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller recently spoke with esports.gg. During the conversation he highlighted references related to the new hero, Vendetta.
Some characters have unique lines that can trigger when Vendetta is killed:
- Reaper: «Apparently misfortune runs in your family»
- Reaper: «This is the end of the road»
- Cassidy: «So many years gone, and I’m still cleaning up after Reyes»
That sparked speculation in the Overwatch 2 community that the developers might return to releasing PvE missions.
The game director denied those rumours:
We have no plans to bring back the “Retribution” event or add anything similar to the game in the foreseeable future. That said, I like the nod to that mission because it connects to Vendetta’s story. It’s one of the things I particularly enjoy about this hero — how tightly she ties into the wider world and lore. After all, that mission involved not only her father but also members of Blackwatch.
Aaron Keller added:
Now she’s connected to other members of Talon. Working on a hero with such deep ties to the world was genuinely rewarding. And, of course, [senior narrative designer] Jude did a lot of wonderful work. Looking ahead, I think this is the direction we’d like to pursue — introducing new heroes who are already part of the existing world and lore, or using them to advance the story and reveal new facets of it.
